In the following (in no particular order), the updates for lepton-photon 2005 with respect to winter conferences 2005 are discussed.
The updates focus on two areas: measurements of exclusive charmless semileptonic B decays (in particular B -> pi l nu) and measurements of inclusive charmless semileptonic decays and the determination of |Vub|.
Some of the error breakdowns can be found in http://www.slac.stanford.edu/xorg/hfag/semi/lp05/lp05.xls spreadsheet. This has been updated only for inclusive and exclusive |Vub|.
The parameters used are listed in common.param; see the relevant (non-semileptonic) HFAG web pages for how they were determined.
This determination has changed substantially in the past year. Recent theoretical developments include radiative corrections to the leading shape function, studies of sub-leading shape functions, and the development of a new "generator", i.e. a calculation valid over the full b -> u l nu decay phase space (see hep-ph/0504071). It is also widely accepted now that heavy quark (HQ) parameters determined other processes, e.g. moments from b -> c l nu semileptonic decays, can be used to constrain moments of the leading shape function. As the best method for determining the HQ parameters is still a subject for discussion, |Vub| is determined using several choices for the HQ parameters.
Several new measurements are available, some with partial rates in bins of q^2. The most precise measurements are still the untagged (i.e. neutrino reconstruction) variety, but the average of the B-tagged measurements is becoming competitive for the total branching fraction. The determination of |Vub| from these measurements is still evolving; at present we use only the partial BF for q2>16 along with unquenched lattice QCD calculations
